When recording and inside of Game Capture, it uses the internal encoder and just dumps the video to your computer. It also uses this output from the card for any third party capture software. If streaming, it uses theuncompressed feed for low latency and uses the CPU by default to encode the stream and send it out to twitch, yt, etc. That's not how it works, the thread I linked to has Elgato staff stating just that.
